This will be my 5th Valentine's Day with my forever Valentine; my husband! It's crazy to acknowledge that we've shared this many together because I remember all of the Valentine's Days where I had no man in sight. Year after year, I'd watch my friends be boo'd up, shop for Valentine's presents, and get showered with love and gifts for this special holiday. And since I was a hopeless romantic, there was always a part of me who longed to receive that energy and affection from a special someone as well. However, it just never seemed to be in the cards for me to have a man on Valentine's Day! So, I just charged it to the game and figured it wasn't my time yet. I'd go about the day with business as usual and no special plans. And, full disclosure, by the end of the night, I would feel pretty sad.
Looking back, I think that where I messed up was thinking I needed to have a significant other to be treated and spoiled on Valentine's Day. I adopted the limiting belief that because I didn't have a man in my life, it wasn't my time to indulge in the Valentine's experiences I saw other women having--special deliveries, dinner dates, gifts, and more. Honey, if I knew then what I know now, I would've lived out those V-days a lot differently! The truth of the matter is this: whether you're single, dating, or married--no one in this world should treat you better than you're willing to treat yourself.
This Valentine's Day, I challenge you to cater to yourself with the same energy you'd enjoy receiving from someone else. You are deserving of TLC, luxury experiences, and the fulfillment of your wishes and wants right now, not "when". Take control of the narrative of what Valentine's weekend will look like for you and treat your own self the way you'd like to be treated. Here are 10 different ways you can do it:
#1 - Order yourself a floral arrangement and have it delivered to your home or job.
Attach a note of love or positive affirmations and read it aloud when you receive it.
#2 - Book a massage or spa day.
#3 - Get your hair and nails done.
When we look good, we feel good!
#4 - Get your makeup done and dress up for a solo dinner date or a date with your girls.
#5 - Order takeout from your favorite restaurant and watch a funny movie at home.
#6 - Gift yourself a luxury fragrance.
#7 - Gift yourself a business or personal development investment
like a course, webinar, or conference registration.
#8 - Book a weekend getaway or staycation
to relax, unwind, and spend time with yourself.
#9 - Have your favorite sweet indulgence
and don't read the nutrition facts. Calorie counting
will resume on February 15th. Govern yourself accordingly.
#10 - Go shopping. Need I say more? :-)
If you think of something else feel free to incorporate it into your weekend! Share this post with all your girlfriends no matter what their relationship status is. Self-love really is the best love. Express it unapologetically from this day on!
